Dit is wetenschappelijk onderzocht en vastgesteld door de Universiteit van Aken, Duitsland. De belangrijkste uitkomst van het onderzoek was:<\/p>\n

“Curlies haben nicht nur weniger allergene Proteine in ihren Schuppen, sondern diese sind auch qualitativ anders zusammengesetzt.” Ofwel:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Curlies hebben niet alleen minder allergene eiwitten in hun huidschilfers, deze zijn ook nog eens kwalitatief anders samengesteld.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Mensen met een allergie voor paarden blijken niet of nauwelijks allergisch te reageren op de vacht van een Curly.<\/p>\n

Hoe kan dit?<\/strong>
Een paardenallergie wordt vaak veroorzaakt door de huidschilfers van paarden, die een allergische reactie van de luchtwegen geven, waarbij astmatische verschijnselen kunnen optreden.<\/p>\n

Andere huidschilfers<\/strong>
Alle paarden -ook Curly Horses- hebben huidschilfers. Echter blijkt dat de huidschilfers van Curly Horses een andere samenstelling hebben dan die van ‘normale’ paarden. Deze samenstelling veroorzaakt geen of weinig allergische reacties bij mensen met een paardenallergie.<\/p>\n

Eiwitten huidschilfers<\/strong>
Zoals het bovengenoemde Duitse onderzoek, is ook in een\u00a0 uitgebreide study in 2004 (Anne Kurschner) een twintigtal eiwitten die de allergische reactie veroorzaken, uit de huid van curly paarden en niet-curly paarden vergeleken. Curly paarden bleken dezelfde allergene eiwitten hebben als niet-curly paarden, maar in lagere concentraties, die per paard bleken te vari\u00ebren. Het feit dat de concentraties verschillen verklaart ook waarom de mate van hypo-allergeniteit per curly verschilt.<\/p>\n

Meer olie<\/strong>
Ook is bekend dat de vacht van een Curly paard meer olie bevat dan andere rassen. Mogelijk draagt ook dit bij aan het verminderen van de allergische reactie.<\/p>\n

Onderzoek loopt<\/strong>
Er zijn dus diverse studies gedaan, maar nog steeds zijn er veel vraagtekens rondom de hypo-allergeniteit van de Curly vacht. Zo bestaan er bijvoorbeeld ook gladharige Curly Horses die toch hypo-allergeen zijn.\u00a0<\/p>\n
