Wat is een paardenallergie? Wie krijgt een allergie voor paarden? Wat zijn de verschijnselen? Hoe wordt de diagnose gesteld? Hoe wordt een paardenallergie behandeld? Doordat ik ontdekte dat Curly Horses Hypo-allergeen zijn en dus ook geschikt kunnen zijn voor mensen met een paardenallergie<\/a>,<\/span> stuitte ik op de volgende informatie. Ik heb de belangrijkste punten voor je verzameld, gevonden bij een kliniek die o.a. gespecialiseerd is in dermatologie.<\/h4>\n

Bij allergie voor paarden is er sprake van een allergische reactie van de luchtwegen op huidschilfers van paarden. Dit geeft verschijnselen van astma. Allergie voor paarden is niet heel bekend en wordt daardoor vaak onderschat of niet herkend. Zowel pati\u00ebnt als arts denkt vaak niet aan paarden als basis voor astmatische klachten, terwijl deze allergie toch veel voorkomt.<\/p>\n

Wie krijgt paardenallergie?<\/strong>
Allergie voor paarden komt vaker voor dan gedacht en kan\u00a0 op elke leeftijd ontstaan. Bij sommigen zijn de klachten zo mild dat zij paard kunnen blijven rijden, bij anderen kan blootstelling aan een kleine hoeveelheid paardenallergeen tot heftige reacties leiden. Dus zelfs mensen die alleen maar in aanraking komen met paardrijdende ouders, broertjes, zusjes of klasgenootjes, paardrij-kleding (denk ook aan hooi, stro en andere materialen die vaak in de buurt van paarden voorkomen).<\/p>\n

Verschijnselen bij paardenallergie<\/strong>
Zodra het paardenallergeen in contact komt met de slijmvliezen van de allergische persoon ontstaat een reactie van het afweersysteem, waardoor o.a. histamine vrij komt. Gevolg: branderig of jeukend gevoel soms met niesbuien en loopneuzen. Door zwelling van het slijmvlies kan hoofdpijn ontstaan en contact met oogslijmvlies kan jeukende, branderige en tranende ogen veroorzaken. Bij langere blootstelling kunnen astmatische klachten ontstaan.<\/p>\n

Diagnose<\/strong>
Een allergie voor paarden kan op twee manieren gediagnostiseerd worden:
1). Bloedonderzoek.
2). De \u2018priktest\u2019 \u00a0(klein hoeveelheid allergenen extract\u00a0 uit huidschilfers van het paard wordt in\/op de huid geprikt).<\/p>\n

Behandeling van een paardenallergie<\/strong>
De allergische klachten kunnen worden behandeld met antihistaminica in tabletvorm of oogdruppels. Dit soort medicijnen kan worden gebruikt bij incidentele blootstelling aan paardenallergeen.<\/p>\n
